Motion Sickness Facts and Information

  1. If you do get sick, don't despair. Motion sickness generally clears up soon after you stop traveling, and has no long-term complications. Report any unusual side effects from motion-sickness medications to your health care provider.

  2. What Can I Do for Motion Sickness: Avoid strong odors and spicy or greasy foods that do not agree with you (immediately before and during your travel).

  3. To avoid motion sickness, sea sickness or altitude sickness: Face leeward (so if you vomit, it gets blown away from the ship, not into it).

  4. What causes Motion Sickness, sea sickness or altitude sickness: Pre Trip, Many times the previous 24 hours are the reason for motion sickness not the journey itself. Hangovers, over tiredness, anxiety, minor illnesses all contribute to motion sickness. A heavy meal, full of fat and possibly over spiced does not help either. Too many carbonated and or alcoholic drinks can unsettle your stomach which will make you more sensitive to motion sickness during the journey. Therefore if you are not fit, rested and healthy you will probably suffer more motion sickness than you usually do.

  5. Motion sickness is a conflict between your senses. A fluid filled canal in your inner ear that controls your sense of balance tells your brain that your body is moving, while your eyes, looking into the cabin of the boat, tells your brain that you are not moving. That conflict can cause your body to be out of balance, and we know how the digestive system feels about that.

  6. Relief Bands for motion sickness can help prevent the unpleasant symptoms of travel sickness.

  7. SEA Bands are an excellent drug free alternative to chemical travel sickness medication. The bands cause no side effects and are absolutely safe for children and adults.

  8. Another treatment for sea sickness or motion sickness is an acupressure wrist band. It applies pressure to a particular point on your wrist, which can prevent the feeling of nausea.

  9. For motion sickness or sea sickness: If you are beginning to feel a bit queasy, stand up and look out over the horizon. Despite what you might think, sitting or lying down is the worst thing you can do at this point. Don't do it. This is a critical moment. You will get much worse even faster and may reach a point of no return if you make the wrong choice. Soda crackers seem to help some people by calming their stomachs and reducing nausea.

  10. One tablet of trip ease should be taken at the start of each trip, and one every hour while the problem persists.
