  1. What causes Motion Sickness, sea sickness or altitude sickness: Racial and Genetic Differences

  2. Beer for motion sickness or sea sickness: Beer initially may keep you well hydrated and also has a sedating effect (not many people have nausea or vomiting while asleep). But the bad effect is that it may eventually cause dehydration. Remember drinking beer may eventually make you pee like a racehorse.

  4. Motion sickness causes reduced blood flow and this in turn reduces the body temperature making the sufferer feel cold and clammy.

What Can I Do for Motion Sickness: Always ride where your eyes will see the same motion that your body and inner ears feel, e.g., sit in the front seat of the car and look at the distant scenery; go up on the deck of the ship and watch the motion of the horizon; sit by the window of the airplane and look outside. In an airplane choose a seat over the wings where the motion is the least.

  7. Most medications for motion sickness need to be taken at least 30 minutes before exposure to the activity that can cause the problem.

  8. To reduce the effect of motion sickness, sea sickness or altitude sickness avoids alcohol and caffeine. If you have respiratory problems, eliminate foods that produce inflammation and mucus, such as dairy products, fruit, and sugar. Ginger sliced and chewed may prevent the onset of motion sickness. Encapsulated ginger, crystallized ginger, or ginger snaps may also help. Ginger has been shown to be more effective than antihistamines if taken one hour before traveling. Sips of lemon water may help relieve nausea during an episode.

  9. Approximately 90% of adults will experience motion sickness at some time in their lives. However, it is much more common for children.

  10. If you do get sick, don't despair. Motion sickness generally clears up soon after you stop traveling, and has no long-term complications. Report any unusual side effects from motion-sickness medications to your health care provider.
