Motion Sickness Facts and Information

  1. Motion Sickness is a syndrome that occurs in some people when they travel in a vehicle such as an automobile, airplane, or ship. Its symptoms include nausea, dizziness, vomiting, drowsiness, pallor, and sweating. Why some people experience motion sickness and others don't, is uncertain.

  2. Symptoms of motion sickness, seasickness or altitude sickness: Feeling cold and clammy

  3. It is not known why some people develop motion sickness, seasickness or altitude sickness and others do not. Motion sickness is more likely to be seen in young people, women, and people of Asian ancestry. Those who are fearful and anxious during a trip, or who more frequently experience nausea or vomiting, may also be prone to motion sickness.

  4. One tablet of trip ease should be taken at the start of each trip, and one every hour while the problem persists.

  5. To prevent motion sickness or sea sickness or altitude sickness: Take one of the varieties of motion sickness medicines before your travel begins, as recommended by your physician.

  6. For motion sickness or sea sickness: Caffeinated beverages (including soft drinks) should be avoided as they are diuretics (make you urinate), which accelerate dehydration. The gas in carbonated beverages has negative responses in some, avoid them also.

  7. The ReliefBand looks like a plastic wristwatch with an elastic band, but is worn on the inside of the wrist and electrically stimulates the median nerve to relieve motion sickness, altitude sickness or sea sickness.

  8. As you may have observed some families suffer from motion sickness more than others, there is also a racial difference which was shown in a medical trial. The Asian-American children suffered the most motion sickness, 100% of them and it was so bad for some of them they asked to leave the trial early.

  9. If you begin to feel sea sick, or motion sick; Avoid strong odors

  10. Another treatment for sea sickness or motion sickness is an acupressure wrist band. It applies pressure to a particular point on your wrist, which can prevent the feeling of nausea.
