Motion Sickness Facts and Information

  1. To avoid motion sickness, sea sickness or altitude sickness: For cars: It may be helpful to mentally rehearse a trip route as familiarity and anticipation is sometimes helpful.

  2. To prevent motion sickness or sea sickness or altitude sickness: Do not read while traveling if you are subject to motion sickness, and do not sit in a seat facing backward.

  3. To relieve motion sickness or sea sickness on a boat, stay on deck and avoid going below deck while underway.

  5. Symptoms of motion sickness, seasickness or altitude sickness: Feeling cold and clammy

  6. For motion sickness or sea sickness: Once you are in the water, drop down below the surface (make sure your buddy knows that this is the plan). The top ten or fifteen feet or so (3 to 4.5 meters), more in rough seas can still have a surge that will have an effect on you. Dropping below that can have a calming effect on your senses (and your stomach).

  7. Motion sickness or sea sickness is usually just a minor annoyance and does not signify any serious medical illness, but some travelers are incapacitated by it, and a few even suffer symptoms for a few days after the trip.

  8. Motion sickness is nausea and dizziness that occurs when traveling in a moving vehicle such as a car, boat, or airplane.

  9. To relieve motion sickness or sea sickness focus on the horizon.

  10. For motion sickness or sea sickness: Get plenty of rest before diving. Weariness and exhaustion can make you more susceptible to other things that can bring on motion sickness. Do your gear preparation early the day before diving and take care of other business well before a proper bed time.
