Motion Sickness Facts and Information

  1. If you begin to feel sea sick, or motion sick; don't read

  2. What Can I Do for Motion Sickness: Do not watch or talk to another traveler who is having motion sickness.

  3. Beer for motion sickness or sea sickness: Beer initially may keep you well hydrated and also has a sedating effect (not many people have nausea or vomiting while asleep). But the bad effect is that it may eventually cause dehydration. Remember drinking beer may eventually make you pee like a racehorse.

  4. Motion sickness or seasickness is usually just a minor annoyance and does not signify any serious medical illness, but some travelers are incapacitated by it, and a few even suffer symptoms for a few days after the trip.

  5. To avoid motion sickness, sea sickness or altitude sickness: In the car: sit in the front seat or drive.

  7. Seasickness happens when the body, inner ear, and eyes all send different signals to the brain, resulting in confusion and queasiness. It is a problem generally attributed to disturbance in the balance system of the inner ear (vestibular) system. Your sensory perception gets out of synch as these nerve fibers attempt to compensate for the unfamiliar motion of the ship moving through water.

  8. What Can I Do for Motion Sickness: Take one of the varieties of motion sickness medicines before your travel begins, as recommended by your physician.

  9. Motion sickness is also a learned malady, which can be unlearned. Roughly 17 percent of military pilot-trainees experience motion sickness serious enough to interfere with aircraft control, but only about 1 percent actually wash out due to air sickness. The rest simply learn to deal with it.
